SWIFTY

London

Stepping onto the scene in the late 1980’s, Swifty went on to become a reference in British graphics; particularly where it related to music and youth culture. Starting out at The Face magazine under Neville Brody, he went on to art direct Arena for nearly a year. Since 1989 he’s been art director of 'Straight No Chaser' magazine, making it a vehicle for his unique fonts and graphic sensibility. He then set up "Swifty Typografix", supplying club flyers for London dj's and promoters like Gilles Peterson, Somethin' Else and the Fridge in Brixton for the next five years. Swifty designed the whole look for the influential label "Talkin Loud", the 'Mo Wax' logo and initial label aesthetic, as well as 'Source360' amongst numerous others; brazilian label 'Far Out' and 'Especial' being the most prominent. The late 90's saw Swifty designing title sequences and logos for Channel 4, the BBC, and also worked on a handful of short films. Nowadays he’s also designing patterns and designs for brands like Addict, along with Mitchy and Mode 2, still an adept of the “hands on” attitude.
